　It’s been five hours since we left the town of Pae Ho and traveled west.

　As the overgrown vegetation decreased, the smell of soil gradually filled the air, and then the blacksmithing town of 『Badgordo』 came into view among the mountains.

“Alright, once we secure a buyer for the Mithril alloy at the Blacksmiths Guild, we’ll dive right into the dungeon.”

　While hurrying my horse, Seventh Teiō, we moved towards the Blacksmiths Guild. It’s been a long time since I last dived into the Proline Dungeon, and I was really eager to enter.

“Second-dono!　Why are you so hasty? “

　After somehow catching up to me, Silvia then asked.

“From all the intermediate class dungeons, I like Proline the most! “

“That’s not a reason! “

“You’ll soon know! “

　I said that while laughing, then hurried to the Blacksmiths Guild.

　We were still at the Blacksmiths Guild.

　There seemed to be a few good wholesale buyers. However, none of them accepted my proposal. No matter where I went, they all accused me of lying with arguments like “It’s absurd for someone to say they’ll provide a stable supply of mithril alloy”.

“Well, this was bound to happen.”

　Yukari muttered. Certainly, if someone was to come with a story too good to be true like “I’ll wholesale mithril alloy starting tomorrow”, I suppose it’s normal for them not to trust it.

“What do you think we should do? “

　I wasn’t ashamed to ask that question to Yukari.

“For one, I think it would be a good idea to capture the Proline Dungeon and get some reputation. They’ll probably trust you if you show them your ability.”

“In other words, join the Adventurers Guild? “

“Yeah, that’s right.”

　Whoa…… I really hate that plan. I’ve only got bad memories of the Adventurers Guild in my previous life.

“I guessed so……”

　Rather than hiding our identity and clearing it, whilst we get on their bad side and they think “Who do they think they are!?　We will not turn a blind eye to this! ” it’s better to be obedient members and have them support us like　“As expected of our aces! Look forward to their achievements!”.

　But well, that would only be the case if the Adventurers Guild was “upright”. But most of the time that’s not the case. If we capture it without registering, who knows what they’ll do.

　If they just tracked our movements that would still be okay, but they might distort the truth and spread rumors among the Blacksmiths Guild, maybe putting on pressure and interfering with our business partners, or they might even send assassins. With the “Adventurers Guild of Mobius” that I know, that is a plausible possibility.

“……I guess it can’t be helped then. Let’s find an inn, then go register at the Adventurers Guild.”

　After giving up, the crestfallen me and the others headed towards the inn.

“Ah, y-yes!　This way please! “

　The receptionist was very friendly. It’s at times like these that I really feel the benefits of having this kind of avatar.

　I filled out the registration documents and handed them back to the receptionist. I registered us as a team. The team name was 『Firstest』, and the members four, including me.

　After refusing their rudimentary explanation, I received the four Guild cards. These Guild cards were something similar to an ID for adventurers. The contents of the card have the individual and team rank, both of which were at F. By the way, the ranks go from F to A.

　I paid the money, then left the reception desk.

I was frustrated because I wanted to dive into the Proline Dungeon as soon as possible; frustrated because I couldn’t find a buyer for the mithril alloy; frustrated with the situation where I had to come register to the Adventurers Guild, which I didn’t want to get involved with in the first place; frustrated by the fact that I am currently F rank; and lastly, frustrated by the blatant money-grubber attitude of the Guild.

“Hey, hey!　You, the fancy guy with the dark elf! “

　……And while now being irritated by this strange guy, my frustration was reaching a climax. This is why I didn’t want to come here.

“You’re new here, right?　Let me teach you a lesson. I’m the fellow who educates rookies. Aren’t you grateful? “

　A huge bearded man with lots of scars on his face approached. Behind him were three guys with vulgar expressions. He licked his lips, probably thinking of the “enjoyment” he would get with Yukari as if he had already won. Does he really think he can beat me?

　*Pop*.

　I could almost hear the snap in my head.

“You know, I’m kind of curious. Why are you picking a fight like this? “

“Ha?　How so? “

“Maybe you think ‘ahh, that’s a sucker rookie’. You think you’re lucky to beat some weak-looking guy and take the beautiful woman accompanying him?　Because you can easily disguise it as educating newcomers? I knew there were people like you, but I guess you got the wrong guy.”

“What?　Are you picking up a fight?　Bastard.”

“That’s not it. It’s something else. Aren’t you just the typical crook?　I don’t think you’re at fault. I think the Guild that lets people like you become an adventurer is the one at fault. If a teacher is looking after a problem student, they need to do it properly, right?　Am I wrong? “

　When I looked around, everyone, adventurers and staff members avoided my gaze. If there was a knight with Silvia’s sense of justice the story would be different, but everyone here was basically just “letting sleeping dogs lie”. But there were quite a few of them here, and if they aren’t doing anything to avoid this, aren’t they just accomplices?

“And what’s this about rookie education? Is it like a secret word or something?　Is he going to teach me a lesson behind the scenes?　Hey, say something.”

“Hey, don’t ignore me! “

“Okay, okay, geez, you don’t shut your mouth, huh? Just come at me. Otherwise it won’t be self-defense.”

“You bastard!! “

　The huge bearded man’s face turned red with anger, and he threw out a punch.

　Unfortunately, he’s full of openings…… It’s as if he’s screaming ‘please kill me’.

“Stop! “

　――The next moment, Eko got between me and the big man.

　And his fist landed on Eko’s head.

“Ooouch….”

　The man held his right hand, and made a sound that indicated his bones had broken. Eko on the other hand, was the same as always. It seems like the difference between his STR and Eko’s VIT is just too much.

“Bastar–!　Eh……What’s this!? “

　The other three tried to move behind me but―― they suddenly fell to the ground while raising a confused voice.

“I tied them up just in case, Master.”

　Now that I think of it, Yukari had the 【Thread Manipulation】 skill. As expected of the former assassin of the deceased Duchess, she tied them up without even moving much.

“Hmph, is there nothing left for me?”

　Silvia leaked a disappointed voice while holding her bow. What was she trying to do with a bow in this small room?　Then she muttered, “And even though I’ve been practicing with the Bow of the Blazing Wolf a lot for a moment like this…….”. I guess it’s pointless to tell her this is not the point of her having a bow.

　My feet were shaking.

　Was I scared of the big man?

　No, that’s not it. I was scared of myself.

　If things had continued as they were and a fight had broken out while I was irritated…… In the worst case, I would have slaughtered them all.

　But this is not a game. Even though I already realized it, it seems I have yet to completely understand it. Killing a person here doesn’t make you a PK (Player Killer), but a ‘murderer’. Yeah, I know that in my mind, but seems like I still haven’t completely lost the sense of this being a game.

　It might be difficult to become the world’s top in this other world, but in a completely different sense.

　After I told the three of them, each of us went into our room at the inn.

　……This isn’t good. When I killed the thieves, I couldn’t stop the shaking for a while.

  1. This is the Japanese novel I have the most expectations for, it really feels like it could be great. Reminds me a little bit of “Trash of the Count’s Family”, my favorite Korean novel–which only makes me wish more of this was already transalted.

        • the thing I have the problem with is the not the hesitation or guilt to kill its THE REASON THEY GIVE that pisses me off. they give the reason as taking out the trash makes me trash as well. aka killing a murderer makes you a murderer as well. or that it makes you just as bad as they are. by that reasoning killing a serial killer who rapes and guts his victims will make you go out and start raping and gutting innocent people. this is the stupid false moral high ground that i hate so much. that ruins good stories. especially if the world setting will let the bastard go free unpunished.
          i can get having hesitation to take a life. especially for someone who never held a weapon before. but in this case in this world the “authorities” are corrupt, MC knows this. in this world if you want justice you need to take it yourself because in this world you are responsible for your own life unless you are someone “important” like a noble. there is no police that will investigate your death and punish those responsible.

    • 100% agree. If you’re associating the hesitation to murder people with cowardice then something’s wrong with you. I would understand if he just completely refused to kill anyone, even his greatest enemies, like some other novels but he’s already demonstrated that he’ll kill people if necessary. In reality killing people almost always comes with mental strain or trauma, and personally I like some realism in my stories. There’s plenty of edgelord murder spree novels out there if second is too “soft” for you

    If it talking about morality of human beeing then it is fine, but talking Natural Human reaction? what kind of dumb shit is that.

    Let me put an example, if plenty of guy try to kill you and raped your female family in front of you with dozen man, what will you do?
    -Let them go away just like it is never happened
    – Or kill them when you have still power to do that.

    If you still let them go, then there is must be something shit with your brain and your so-called Natural Human Reaction.

    • I think your example fits perfectly with what happened. It’s not that Second didnt want to kill those guys, it’s just that the circumstances made it so that he didnt have to.
      If the girls hadnt butted in, then he most likely would have slaughtered them. Because, in the heat of the moment, he would have done it, not questions asked.
      But that’s aside feeling remorseful for almost killing someone for something as petty as “picking a fight”.
      You’ll be seeing this next fact from time to time, but Second stil hasnt come to terms completely with the fact that this is real life and no longer an online game.
      Anyway, most people are used to the staple “fight at the adventurers guild” so they expected that to happen, but this isnt Second being a coward, like I said, if the girls hadnt interefered, he would have killed those guys. It’s just that the fact that, after cooling down, he noticed the severity of those actions, makes him more “human”, and less “psycho”.

    • I believe that there are different reactions from different people.
      The normal GOOD reaction in the situation is:
      1. Saving your family and get the rapists arrested.
      The normal reaction is:
      2. Saving your family and get back at rapists(not in a severe way) and ultimately getting them arrested.
      The normal BAD reaction is:
      3. Saving your family and achieve ‘revenge’ by killing them.

      Honestly there is a lot of contradictions in the story, like “if you have enough power to kill them there and then, why did you even let them near your family?” and “how can you consider killing an easy to do task?”. And even if you counter them with something like “you were weak so you killed them one by one” or “if someone you love is suffering in front of you, won’t you want to kill them?”, I can assure you that no matter what choice you choose in your given options, you are a mentally ill person.

      Firstly, Killing others are NOT a installed emergency or program in our soul that we can easily activate unless you have a cognitive ability to activate it at will, possessing a strong will to kill, or honestly a crazy person who do not feel anything with killing. If you think you can easily kill, try trying to insert a knife at your body, if you can’t even insert it in you, especially at the heart area, it means that you are thinking reasonably like “why will I hurt myself” or you are just a coward who hides with your lies that you can kill. IF you do successfully inserted the knife, then congratulations, you can kill without any care on the world and honestly, go to a doctor and get your head fixed. One just can’t kill others or oneself since it is a psychological reaction or the built-in program so that one won’t just go on a killing spree in a snap.

      Secondly, Killing originated when Cain killed Abel, due to ‘Jealousy’. See my point? You can surely kill someone if you are clouded with dark emotions or at the very least, you grasped the edge of evil, since at that time, you wrongly justify your actions of doing something bad for ‘someone’ or ‘yourself’. No matter for who or for what you kill for, killing is still, ultimately, something bad that will never be treated as something good.

      You may say killing someone sooner is better than letting that someone trouble you in life, but it can by no means be justified as something ‘good’. The only good crime in our law is “helping someone that you can help even though you should be obligated to only call for professional help since it may endanger one’s life”. You may say that killing someone for the greater good is acceptable, but it is not, according to God’s law. The reason why we think killing bad guys is good is because it lessen our problems and since they did something bad, they deserve to be killed. This is how our society functions, blinding the real truth from us to make killing someone acceptable as long as they judged him as someone who is bad. The reason why God forgive us no matter how heavy our sins are is because he knows that we will kill someone to better our society. It is correct logically but spiritually or morally, it is wrong. We treat killing someone who discriminately kills someone as the normal option but this mentality is VERY wrong. Even though I, myself, is thinking that someone should kill for the greater good is okay even though I am sure that it is not, but because this is how ‘humans’ think, my argument may as well be considered as bullshit. But I am not talking about the good ‘humans’, I am thinking about the corrupter ‘humans’ who will blind themselves with absolutely wrong justification just to make themselves feel right even though they are doing something so bad.

      All in All, Killing is NEVER a good option. That’s why the phrase ‘Returning evil with evil is the same as doing evil’ or something along those lines is made. Killing someone bad is not still not and never will be considered good because killing is still a sin no matter how you justify it. But still, remember, even if you DO kill, seeking forgiveness is still plausible option. Also, I am here to argue that killing IS bad. No matter how much you justify killing, in the end of the day you will understand that it still bad so you lie to yourself that it good. Truthfully, revenge is what most people resort to not because it is good but because it is bad. We, humans, just can’t help but to commit sin every time we can since we are sinful creatures. So I am angry not that you think that killing should be what have been done but angry because you think that killing should only be what should’ve been done. I want to correct your mentality because it is so wrong that I TRULY wonder why you think it is good. In the end, this argument can be brushed off as bullshit but at the very least, try to think of it in my perspective or the ‘moral-logic’ perspective where you disassemble something and try to understand why it is treated that way and why they do something in that way and why do they agree at doing something at that way. Once you do, you will unexpectedly see the things you firstly agree on doing since it something everyone agrees on doing as something shitty. But try not including traditional actions a lot, like arguing in which of one’s body should one kiss to greet them or show respect to them might take a while and may not even result in an ending both sides do not agree on on.

      TL;DR, Killing is bad, Seven is Second. Baba is You, Baba is half-demon.
